How to Use Existing Identification with Secure

AlphaCard Visitor Pass includes the ability to design and print your own visitor badges, but it may be easier to use badges that have been printed for another purpose or other identification.

How to Use Existing Identification

When using existing identification with AlphaCard Visitor Pass, there are a few different ways to use it depending on what type of ID you’re using. The two main types of badges that can easily be used with AlphaCard Visitor Pass are:

  • Custom printed badges
  • Government issued ID

Custom Badges

If you are using a custom printed ID card from another application that has a barcode or magnetic stripe on it with unique identification numbers, then you can create a visitor record linked to that barcode or magnetic stripe. If you aren’t sure how to do that, these guides can help:

You can then set up the information already on the card to pull up and check in that visitor. This makes it easier for your visitors because they won’t need a separate card just for your building.

If the pre-existing identification card does not have such an easy-to-scan field on it, you can still use the ID to check the visitor in. Simply make sure that the data on the card matches the information in one of the record lookup fields in the database:

Government-Issued ID

If instead you want to use a government issued identification badge, you can either scan the badge using AlphaCard Visitor Pass’s ID scan capabilities or use the information on the card to verify the visitor.

If you want to scan the information from the government issued identification directly into the AlphaCard Visitor Pass database, you will need a compatible ID scanner and to follow the instructions in these articles:

Alternatively, if you don’t want to set up an ID scanner and having every visitor scan their ID you can simply take the Driver License number, or a similarly unique data point, and put it in the database and set up that field to be a record lookup field.
