What are Volunteer Badges?

Volunteer ID badges play a critical role in a broad range of nonprofit and school environments, providing that extra layer of security so non-employees can immediately identify a volunteer. Visitor ID cards can display important information such as the person’s name and their reason for volunteering (e.g. they are helping with a school program or are helping to serve the homeless at a soup kitchen). Typically, volunteer badges are highly visible when displayed o ensure the cardholder is instantly recognized as a volunteer. Examples of badge attachments include lanyards, reels, and strap clips.

Are Volunteer Badges the Right fit for my Organization?

Schools and nonprofit organizations are examples of industries in constant need of volunteers. Especially in sensitive environments where children are present, volunteer badges should always be worn. In short, volunteer ID badges are a quick and easy way to identify a person’s role within an organization and let others know who volunteers are.

For volunteer programs with a multitude of volunteers coming and going, ID badges can be designed and printed on the spot (or on-location such as at disaster relief tents). When paired with ID card software, a volunteer ID badge can even keep a log of the number of hours the volunteer has served and printed out for the volunteer to have at the end of his or her time with the organization. Since some state correctional programs mandate volunteer work for certain crimes, it is necessary that all volunteer times are tracked efficiently.

Here at AlphaCard, our experience allows us to design custom volunteer ID badge systems for facilities with hundreds to thousands of volunteers per year. If identification is an important factor, volunteer badges can be customized with personal data such as the person’s legal name and photo. There are also generic volunteer badges that might not give the person’s actual identity but stand out by being a different color than the badges of employees. There are several options to choose from.
