Encoded cards contain technology that is infused with identifying information during the printing process. They are a popular solution for building and computer network access control, cashless payment and other applications requiring instant transfer of data. Encoded technology includes magnetic stripe cards, smart chips and RFID or proximity cards. Magnetic stripe cards and some smart cards communicate with readers by way of contact with readers. Proximity cards contain smart chips and RFID technology to provide contactless communicate via radio waves. Stored data can be personal information or simply a serial number to identify a person or object.
