Ah, the idyllic days of summer, where the days consist of mischief, little league games, playing with friends, and swimming at the town pool. Perfect, right? Maybe for kids – but parents can quickly get worried when they don’t know where little Johnny or Suzie ran off to. The Shanklin Municipal Pool in Goshen, Indiana has instituted an ID card program which city officials hope will help prevent this.

Starting this summer, entrants to the Shanklin Municipal Pool will be required to present an ID card with a bar code which will be scanned when the user comes and goes from the pool. When scanned, the barcode will register the user’s information in a database which will be accessible to employees. Should a concerned parent call, asking about the whereabouts of their child, staff members will be able to easily check the database to say if and when the child arrived and left the pool.
While the program was designed to enhance the safety of the pool, it could also have unseen benefits for pool operations. Having a database with times of entries and exits allows management and city officials to gauge how often the pool is used by certain members, and what hours of the day are most popular for swimming. This could allow managers to change hours of operation, adult swim hours, or swimming lesson times in order to suit the most pool users. AlphaCard offers a variety of Visitor Management Software, designed to helping companies run smoothly.
