Reverse-transfer printing is an innovative technology available with high-definition ID card printers such as the Fargo HDP5000, Zebra ZXP Series 8, and the Magicard Prima. The reverse-transfer printing process produces vivid photo IDs with enhanced color clarity and crisp imaging.

The key difference between reverse-transfer printers and direct-to-card printers is the way the image is put on the card. While direct-to-card printers print images and text straight onto the card, reverse-transfer printers first print onto the reverse side of a special film which is then fused to the card surface. This process results in superior image quality. Plus, the reverse-transfer film provides an added layer of protection to your cards, increasing durability while helping to guard against tampering and forgery.
There are other benefits to reverse-transfer card printing. For instance, it’s the preferred printing method for producing technology cards. Since these cards often feature uneven surfaces (due to the embedded electronics) a reverse-transfer card printer is the perfect solution for ensuring perfect prints every time. The process also helps to extend the lifespan of your printer because the printhead never comes in direct contact with the cards. This cuts down on wear and tear.
