Cleaning your card printer is a quick and easy task that can save you hundreds, or even thousands, of dollars in future repairs and only requires minimal supplies. Let our ID experts explain why this is so important!
Why You Need to Clean Your Printer
Over time dust and debris will settle onto and in your card printer, and that build-up can block sensors and cause printing issues. Oils from your fingers can also be transferred from cards into the printer. And printers not stored in a clean, sterile environment will build up this dirt even faster!
So to keep your printer in top shape, avoid repairs, and maintain high print quality, you will need to clean your printer.
How often should you do this? We recommend cleaning your printer when you change the ribbon – it’s a useful way to remember to do it so you’re never stuck wondering if it was 6 months ago or 6 years ago when you last cleaned it.
What Comes in a Cleaning Kit
Each printer has a specialized cleaning kit that contains the items you need to clean it, so each kit can vary. In general a printer cleaning kit will contain some or all of these items:
- Extra long cleaning cards
- Cleaning swabs
- Sticky rollers
- Cleaning cloths
In addition to these items, a can on compressed air can help blow out dirt and debris.
