ID Cards in the NewsMany students rely on public transportation to get to class, and Carnegie Mellon University’s new smart card student IDs will allow students new access to the public transit in Pittsburg. Using designs students voted on, Carnegie Mellon’s ID cards are also getting a new look this fall.

The new cards do come with a cost to students—the transportation fee all students are changed will be raised to $120. Together with Chatham University and the University of Pittsburg, Carnegie Mellon generates about 11% of rides per month according to the Port Authority of Allegheny County.
