While you can use your own digital camera to take ID photos, there are distinct advantages to using a special digital ID camera, like the Logitech C210 ID Card Camera that comes with most of our photo ID systems.
When you use your own camera, you’ll need to do more work to get the image to meet the correct specifications. With a standard digital camera, all photos need to be taken at a 640 x 480 resolutions. Anything higher will fill your database, without any gain in print quality, as most ID printers only print at 300 dpi. Most software programs do not allow you to downgrade the resolution of an image after the photo has been taken.
With a digital ID camera, however, the photo automatically has the correct resolution and is dropped directly into the badge template. There is no download time, and the possibility of putting the wrong photo on any given card is eliminated.
AlphaCard offers a number of products that make the whole ID photo taking process simple. In addition to cameras optimized for ID photos we offer camera tripods to help hold your camera steady and photo backdrops in a wide range of colors, which will help ensure that all your ID photos are uniform.
