ID card systems are used in organizations all over the world, in a wide range of industries – and this includes offices that use Mac computers instead of PCs. So what are your printer options with a Mac?

Mac-compatible ID Card Printers

Not every ID card printer has drivers to make it compatible with a Mac OS – you will need to be aware of this when comparing printers. You can find this information in the printer specifications, and in a printer’s brochure or used guide.

Current Magicard printers and Evolis printers are fully Mac OS X compatible. Fargo printers are only compatible up through Mac OS 10.9. There are Mac driver updates available online from each manufacture to help you get your printer set up and troubleshoot many problems; you can find links to these drivers for each printer in our Technical Support section.

Mac-compatible ID Software

Most ID card design software is designed for use with PC-based systems only, so your software options may be limited with a Mac. AlphaCard offers cardPresso software for our Mac ID card systems, available in three editions to fit your ID card program’s needs.

cardPresso XS is the basic software, designed for small ID card systems. If your system requires more advanced database options, try cardPresso XM. And for the most advanced features, cardPresso XL has the most options for your card design and database.
