Wilkinsons, a discount retail chain serving the United Kingdom, is test driving contactless payment cards in 25 of its more than 330 stores. During the trail, customers can make purchases for £15 without entering a pin number or signature.

Contactless payment is as simple as tapping a card against a reader, making it a quick way to pay for small purchases. The convenient payment method benefits customers and stores by alleviating long lines during busy times. Shorter lines can increase profits by creating a better shopping experience as well as encouraging potential customers to reap the benefits of a quick checkout process.
Serving more than four million customers per week, the chain is the first in its industry and size to begin a contactless payment program. Wilkinsons expects to have a fully integrated cashless payment program throughout its stores by 2012.
AlphaCard has more solutions for retail stores, such as ID card printers for for printing and encoding contactless cards, as well as making customer loyalty cards.
