The University of Wisconsin-Madison is introducing a new student ID card with expanded functionality. Affectionately known as the “Wiscard,” each student ID will serve a variety of functions, including photo identification, building access control, and debit and meal plan payments.

The new Wiscards include a barcode for checking out library books, and a magnetic stripe for access recreational sports buildings. The card also includes a “Campus Cash” debit feature, and is integrated with the school’s Union meal plan program. Additionally, the Wiscard is set up to serve as a door access card for campus buildings as card readers are added down the road.
Multifunctional student ID cards like the University of Wisconsin’s Wiscard have become extremely popular for colleges and universities. They not only help to improve campus security, but offer a great deal of convenience to students by serving a variety of functions.
