EagleCard holders at Morehead State University just got a lot more privileges. More than 220 new contactless card readers have been installed around campus. Students and administrators are seeing the benefits of the new system. Student ID cards can now be used for access control, eating in dining halls, vending machines, copying and printing, and laundry.

Contactless cards make it easy for students to manage the many services available to them around campus. Surprisingly, the contactless card program has also been integral to increasing revenues for Morehead State. Vending machine sales used to be managed with a contact smart chip built into the EagleCard. Students had to maintain separate accounts for their vending machine purchases and purchases made elsewhere on the campus. To streamline the entire process the university introduced a multi-use account called BeakerBucks, integrating all contactless purchasing. Vending machine sales using student ID cards has increased by 10 percent leaving the university to reap the new system’s rewards.
