European soccer fans continue to make their way into our blog. It’s no secret they’re passionate about their futbol clubs, but occasionally that excitement can lead to violence and hooliganism. This explains the recent rise in ID card programs that aim to enhance security at soccer matches across the pond.

The latest example is a new ID program for soccer enthusiasts in Italy. Starting next season, Italian soccer fans will need to obtain a special “supporters card” from their club in order to attend matches at road venues. In other words, without the card they can’t follow their team away from home. In terms of security, the program will help to sort out rabble-rousers and should aid police in tracking down and identifying troublemakers at these often-contentious matches.
