Adding an Ethernet-capable printer to your ID card program can be a great way to increase your ID printing efficiency. Printers with built-in Ethernet especially benefit large networked environments by allowing users to produce cards from multiple locations without having to be in the same room as the printer itself.

The card printer is available from a Local Area Network (LAN). The heads of multiple departments in a company can all use the printer at the same time, allowing for more than on site for ID photos and cardholder intake. Ethernet networking also saves money since a new card printer will not have to be purchased for each workstation.
If you already have a network set up, adding an Ethernet-capable printer is easy. First connect the printer and install the driver and ID card software on all workstations that will be using the printer. To run an ID card program from multiple locations you will need a licensed copy of the software for each computer.
From the Printers and Faxes or Devices and Printers menu, add the printer using the IP address located on the front of the printer. When your printer is Ethernet-ready, the IP address will be pre-programmed.
AlphaCard offers a variety of ID card printers with built-in Ethernet including the Magicard Rio Pro and the Fargo DTC4500.
