The Nexus Card — a proximity card used by frequent travelers to expedite the process of crossing the border between the U.S. and Canada — is gaining more and more acceptance at border crossings. The program, which has been operational for a number of years, recently expanded its reach to include the Woodstock, Emerson, and Sault Ste. Marie crossings.

The Nexus Card program speeds up the border clearance process for low-risk, pre-approved travelers into the U.S. and Canada. To obtain a card, applicants must first complete a registration process and satisfy all of the eligibility criteria. They must also pass risk assessments by both countries. Once approved, the applicant receives their membership identification card and can use it at participating border crossings. These crossings include dedicated Nexus lanes featuring self-serve kiosks that read the proximity card when it’s waved in front of a reader.
