Select Shanghai school districts are rolling out an upgraded student ID cards that replaces an outdated paper ID card system.  The new cards are now standardized across the school districts using the new system and feature chip-embedded technology that serves a variety of functions for students and their schools.

The new ID cards are capable of storing information about students’ text scores, extra-curricular activities, and health records. This makes it easier for schools to check and keep track of student records when they transfer from one school to another.

Before implementing the new system, students and school in Shanghai have had to use a few different documents to identify students. These updated school ID cards will now be the sole identification for students. The new ID cards are being rolled out in phases, and will soon be distributed to other school districts.
