Legal ID cards are secure and effective thanks to the following:

• Holographs and Overlaminates. Adding a holographic overlay or lamination to a legal ID card, especially a sensitive access control card, can make the card physically much more secure. Aside from making the card much more resistant to everyday stressors, a holographic overlay resists tampering and can prevent counterfeiting. Even if the legal ID card were to fall into the wrong hands, it could not be effectively tampered with or counterfeited without giving away the counterfeiter.
• Smart Card Technology. Smart cards, look like everyday ID cards with the exception of the small gold chip embedded in the card's surface. This chip, a microprocessor, can hold, process and reprogram more data than older encoding technologies like magnetic stripes and barcodes. A legal ID badge with an encoded smart card can be used for access control, personal identification, even sundries like cafeteria purchases. The card can also be re-encoded on the fly, which makes changing security clearances and editing personal information easier and more efficient than ever.
