The success of access control cards and many secure ID systems lies in card readers. ID card readers, which are equipped with tiny electronic sensors, read the data on access control cards and decide whether or not the cardholder should be allowed into an office or a certain area. ID cards and electronic sensors in access control system have a symbiotic relationship. If the electronic sensors in the ID card readers don't work, the access control system won't work.
