Group files FOI request for ID card info
The program doesn?t kick off until next week, but a local group has already filed a state Freedom of Information request for the names, addresses and underlying documentation on residents who obtain an Elm City Municipal ID card. Available to all residents, including illegal immigrants, Southern Connecticut Immigration Reform will invoke the FOI to test the city?s pledge to protect the privacy of the cardholders.Advertisement "Every day we will file a request for the information. That?s not to say we will do anything with it, but if we can get it, who else can get it?" asked Dustin Gold, a member of SCTIR, which contends the cards violate federal laws against aiding illegal immigration.

Communications specialists
By 10 a.m. Paul and Nancy Terry have spent four hours working in the radio operations office at the National Sports Center in Blaine, coordinating walkie-talkie communications and solving myriad problems for officials and fellow volunteers involved in the Schwan's USA Cup youth soccer tournament.
It has already been a long day. A referee needed transportation to a field. A soccer team did not have its ID badges. Batteries for walkie-talkies needed replacing. A golf cart would not start. Resolutions were needed for all these issues -- the sooner the better."It's not a job for the faint of heart," said Barclay Kruse, media director at the National Sports Center. "Paul and Nancy often get the first communication and they have to either provide an answer or get the information. They are impervious to the pressure that comes with that responsibility." Anti-vandalism plan: a skateboard council
"I'm here every single day and nothing really happens," said Jon Hawk, 17. "The most they need is a skate guard. They can put surveillance cameras up, just as long as it keeps the park open." Hackleman said about 20 kids signed up for the council at the Park Board's meeting Wednesday. Assistant Superintendent Will Lacey will help organize the group. The Park Board had considered establishing skate park hours of noon to 7 p.m., charging a $1 to $2 fee for daily admittance and requiring participants to sign a waiver in case of injury.Hackleman said the board has opted not to change skate park hours or charge a fee, but he does want users to sign a waiver. He said skaters also will be required to register with the park and wear ID badges, a policy he hopes to have in place by Aug. 9.
