AROUND 30 per cent of the voters in the city have not received their identity cards as yet. The people are apprehensive that with the implementation of the election code of conduct, the inclusion of names in the voters? list and distribution of photo ID-cards would come to a halt. Meanwhile the election commissioner has already declared that photo ID-cards would be mandatory to use franchise in the assemble election.Talking to HT, the district magistrate Rakesh Goel clarified that the inclusion of names in the electorate list would continue and administration would ensure the distribution of photo ID-cards to every voter within time.Although the administration had claimed to cover up 76 per cent voters in the ongoing photography campaign and distributed at least 70 per cent photo I-cards but this is far from true.Most of the electorate had not received their photo ID-cards. They were approaching the administrative staff for photographs but did not receive favourable reply. Though the administration had published the new voter list on February 15 but it was surprising that the name of the voters was missing from it. While those whose names had been mentioned had not received their voters? ID-cards as yet.
