Library's pilot project seeks to manage visits by homeless
The attendants pick up trash, give out pamphlets and advice to the homeless, and make sure visitors are behaving appropriately. For $7.50 an hour, they wear ID badges and carry radios, notifying maintenance or security if there is a disturbance or a facility problem."We can't afford to have full-time paid people in the restroom just watching," Shelkrot said, adding that library workers support the program.James Brown, 49, one of the new attendants, was homeless for a year before going to Project H.O.M.E. more than a decade ago. Being an attendant will help build his resume and work toward his goal of becoming a security guard, he said.Brown has been encouraging others to try to break the cycle of homelessness, and he thinks some may be listening: Recently, when he put out some Project H.O.M.E. pamphlets, he said, they were all gone the next day.He hopes to be able to take the next step in his own life soon, too.

Police Clearance Department doesn't accept ID cards
I am a Guyanese by birth and was issued with a National ID Card. To my amazement the Police Clearance Department does not accept a National ID Card when a person applies for a police clearance. They only accept a passport or birth certificate. I would like to know why were Guyanese given a National ID Card in the first place when it is not accepted in sections of our country. I believe to get an ID Card you have to get your birth certificate for correct transfer of information to be put on said card or passport. So why is our National ID Card not accepted at some Government entities. A National ID Card should be accepted at any level. I would not accept the excuse that ID Cards can be forged, because passports and birth certificates can be forged as well.

Eritrea accuses Ethiopia of faking ID cards in Somalia
SomaliNet) In yet another scuffle, Eritrea on Sunday accused arch-foe Ethiopia of fabricating identity cards to support claims that Eritrea sent troops to back the Islamist movement in Somalia. However, Ethiopia says hundreds of Eritreans have been killed during nearly two weeks of war between the Somalia Islamic Courts Council and Somali government troops backed by Ethiopian tanks, soldiers and jet fighters. But Asmara denies the Ethiopian accusations. ?The forces of invasion in Somalia through the mercenary agent (Ethiopia)... are resorting to the futile ploy of seizing and duplicating the ID cards of Eritreans residing in Ethiopia and sending such cards to Somalia with a view to backing up their baseless claims,?
Eritrea said in a statement. Full Article from Somalinet.com.
