Three indicted on fake-ID charges

Santiago is accused of six counts of forgery, six counts of tampering with records, four counts of identity fraud and six counts of selling or distributing forged ID cards.No court dates have been set.Butler County Prosecutor Robin Piper said intercepting forgeries is important."Driver's licenses and Social Security cards, those are essential government documents - and those are tools in the hands of a criminal," he said. "Once you have those, you can falsify identity, you can get benefits you're not entitled to. Who knows where you can go once you establish yourself with these fake records?"The pattern of corrupt activity charge against Escalante-Bartolon alleges he ran an illegitimate business "revolving around phony government documents."Asked whether additional people were expected to be charged, Piper said, "I'm sure if there are more, Sheriff (Richard) Jones will find them."

Philadelphia group puts ex-homeless in library bathrooms as attendants

But it's a sensitive issue because the library doesn't want to keep people from using the library to actually access information, Shelkrot said.So, officials approached Project HOME, a nonprofit group that helps homeless people get health care, affordable housing and jobs. Officials developed the plan in which Project HOME received a $17,000 (?13,000) contract to have its workers monitor the bathrooms.
The attendants pick up trash, give out pamphlets and advice to homeless people, and make sure that people are behaving appropriately. For $7.50 (?5.70) an hour, they wear ID badges and carry radios, notifying maintenance or security if there is a disturbance or a facilities problem.

She said she'll probably use the MSA Express when it begins."I think it's a good use, especially for traveling from (the East Bank) to Dinkytown," she said. "Hopefully students will get excited about it and use it." The University of Wisconsin-Madison offers a similar transportation option called SAFEride. The cabs run from 10:30 p.m. to 3 a.m. Riders must provide a University of Wisconsin studentI ID card and are allowed four rides per month. Students are also asked to donate $1.

Fake document producer nabbed

Officers seized a number of fake passports, airline tickets, visas, bank cheques, tax cards, school diplomas, ID cards and family cards from the suspects as well as the computer and scanners used to produce the documents.
According to Dodi, the group allegedly scanned the original documents and printed them repeatedly until they got the closest resemblance to the originals. He added the group had admitted they also made fake visas for travel to the United States, Australia, France, Korea, Japan, Taiwan and Malaysia.
