Federal employees begin receiving new ID cards
The Interior Department's National Business Center, which runs a competing shared service center, started issuing the new identity cards to employees in 20 agencies at the South Interior Building in Washington on Thursday. An NBC spokeswoman said

12 MIA aviation workers charged in hooky-playing scheme
The lost productivity was worth tens of thousands of taxpayer dollars.Lauren Stover, assistant director of the Miami-Dade Aviation Department, said the employees were using each other's airport identification badges to clock in and out.''The possession of airport ID badges does not grant protection to defraud the county, and these individuals have had their access revoked,'' Stover said.

We can't be complacent about school safety
Letter-writer Caren Scaife pinpoints one of many factors affecting school safety by proposing that front-desk personnel at least be equipped with a walkie-talkie to alert administration of a potential problem ["Sadly, it's time ," Oct. 8].
Another easily implemented strategy is to require 100 percent of school staff, including custodians and administrators, to wear their school ID badges 100 percent of the time.Walk into any school in Spotsylvania County and you will note that only about 80 percent of school staff maneuver through hallways wearing the ID badge. ID card tech to go untested
The government said it "would not be realistic to rigorously test everything before the scheme 'goes live' to the point where the government can be sure no further changes need to be made to the design of the scheme".Some parts of the system will not be tested but will use off-the-shelf technology that has been "adequately" tested elsewhere, it said.Trials will focus on the parts of the technology that could have the biggest impact on the ID cards project, it said.
