CONSERVATIVE CORNER: Fair elections should require ID cards
11:04 PM
The Democrats are right in one respect. Requiring ID cards, if properly implemented, will "suppress" a lot of votes. It will prevent felons from voting in states where that is illegal; it will make it more difficult for illegal aliens to vote; it will prevent people from traveling from precinct to precinct to cast multiple votes; and it will eliminate a host of other fraudulent votes. With the right safeguards, however, the law should not prevent a single legal vote. Despite their grandstanding, the Democrats probably know this, but over the years they have become habitually dependent on poorly enforced voting laws.

ICC outlines security procedures
11:03 PM
In a third incident, in Cazenovia, Wis. Friday, a student gunned down a principal.
While reminding the board that no school is ever 100% safe and secure, Mr. Dexter ticked off some of the district's policies and procedures:
*Each of the five buildings has one and only one entrance open during the school day. Other doors from the outside are checked daily to make sure they are locked.
*Staff people greet people who come in from outside, sign them in and issue visitor ID badges.
*Teachers and staff themselves wear badges, so that any badgeless adult in the building is conspicuous.
*The district has engaged a specialist from Questar III for ongoing monitoring of its safety protocols.

Disks with personal data missing from Seattle airport
11:02 PM
Although the disks were missing from the office where ID badges are issued, Reis said the missing information was not considered a security risk."To use a badge, you have to be able to include the computer chip that's in the badge as well as the biometric information on the badge," Reis said. "None of that information is involved."The airport's director of security learned about the situation two weeks ago, and officials decided last week they needed to inform people about the missing disks, Reis said. In a statement posted on its Web site, the Port of Seattle said it has access to the original data, knows whose information was on the missing disks and had mailed notification letters to those affected on Monday.

Caldwell High School Implements More Safety Procedures
11:01 PM
This year they decided to implement ID badges, but the program is still new and it isn't uncommon for kids to forget them. Now the school has decided to post a security official at each of the two entryways to the school. That person will be constantly checking student's ID badges. Anyone without one will be given a temporary replacement and visitors will be required to check-in as soon as they enter the building."An incident like this shows us all that even though we get confident in a system, vigilance, human eyes and ears are the key in preventing these sort of things from happening and averting tragedy," said Mike Farris, Principal of Caldwell High School.
