Douala, Cameroon, 10/01 - The Archdiocese of Bertoua in East Cameroon has completed the identification process for pygmies, one of the most ignored segments of the population in Cameroon. The identification process was carried out under the auspices of the "Association pour l`auto-promotion des populations de l`Est Cameroun (APPEC), or the association for the self development of the peoples of East Cameroon. The exercise was the first phase of an operation to issue Cameroon national identity cards to Baka Pygmies, who are estimated to be 7,000 people, scattered throughout the dense forests of Eastern Cameroon.
