Police punish officer
The Tempe Police Department has disciplined a commander who had his unmarked cruiser stolen when he left it unlocked and running at the end of a driveway.
Cmdr. Tom Long's Chevy Lumina was taken Aug. 6 in Phoenix. Three days later a sharp-eyed apartment complex manager spotted the gold car in a complex just off the Loop 202 in Tempe. No one has been arrested for the crime.And the gun, uniforms, bulletproof vest and building ID badge that were inside were not found. Full Article from Azcentral.com.

RF IDeas Introduces Software-Free IT Convergence Solutions for HID iCLASS Contactless Smart Cards
ASIS -- Enterprises can now converge IT applications with physical security without deploying or developing software using a new family of contactless smart card readers from RF IDeas, Inc. The company introduced its line of intelligent desktop reader/writers, called AIR IDŽ, at the ASIS show, Sept. 12-15, 2005 in Orlando. UK Govt wants you to lurve ID cards
The UK government has said it will go on a "charm offensive" this week, aimed at winning the general public around to the idea of a national identity register and identity card.Home Office minister Andy Burnham is kicking off a seven day tour of the country today with a stop at Manchester Airport. He said he wanted to persuade people that ID cards will protect personal data and privacy, the BBC reports.

Some thoughts on a roundtable on identity cards
A recent roundtable conference organized by a citizen?s body called ?The Main Roaders? was significant in more ways than one. The speakers, drawn from a variety of professions and vocations, participated in a conference on ?The Citizen identity cards: Importance and Urgency?. They were in general agreement on the immediate necessity for introducing the citizen identity cards (ID card) in order to ensure national security, improve law and order, to facilitate the smooth functioning of the state machinery and to aid in the maximum utilization of economic potentials of the country. Furthermore, it would also help remove psychological helplessness from the poorer section of the society and create in them a sense of belonging with the state.
