New High-Tech Security at Education Building
3:12 AM
Imagine entering a building, having your ID scanned, then issued an ID badge complete with a bar code. Boone schools relaxes ID rule
12:08 AM
Good news for students at Boone County High School: They no longer have to wear photo ID badges around their necks at all times during the school day. Boone's site-based council voted Wednesday to nix the rule, which students hated. Instead, they'll now be required to carry their school ID cards somewhere on their person and produce it in certain situations, such as when they use the cafeteria or the school library."I think it's really great," sophomore Ashley Thomas said of the change, which will take effect next fall. "It's really a hassle for us to have to remember (to wear the badges) every day. I mean, people forget their lunch money, on top of everything else."

I don't carry a photo ID; the picture is too ugly
12:09 AM
I am thinking of getting a tattoo, but I want someone to do it who can keep his mouth shut.I'm not planning to have a naked woman applied to my chest or an American flag etched onto my shoulder. Considering the condition my body is in, either would be a desecration. What I want tattooed onto me is a bar code such as you see on cereal boxes at the supermarket. It tells the checkout person what it is, how much it costs and probably a lot of other things. Recently, Glen's put in a self-check-out system so you can scan your own stuff. I've used it, but I don't know any more about what the bar code says than I did before.Anyway, that's what I want tattooed onto me. What I want on it is my name, of course, and my Social Security number and, probably, an emergency phone number to call in case I am run over by a truck.

ID cards to cost £300 each, says report
12:11 AM
A national identity cards scheme could cost as much as £300 per person, not £93 as suggested by Government estimates, according to a draft report by the London School of Economics, a copy of which was seen by the Observer newspaper. The Government figure fails to take into account factors such as the expected life span of the card, says the draft report. The Government anticipates that cards will have to be replaced every 10 years, when in fact the scientifically expected life span is only five years, according to the LSE.

DUP warning over ID cards vote
12:12 AM
The DUP has signalled that their MPs are prepared to play tough with Labour's narrower majority in parliament by saying they could vote against plans for national ID cards. The party has warned Prime Minister Tony Blair and Government whips that their support is not guaranteed - indicating they could end up demanding concessions in the peace process for their nine votes at Westminster. The controversial ID cards plan is expected to create a substantial Labour rebellion. With the Government's majority at 66, the whips could be forced to look to the smaller parties for support if enough Labour MPs oppose the plan.Sammy Wilson, the East Antrim MP, said: "The Government should not think that by simply putting an anti-terrorist tag on the legislation that it will automatically have our support. It is clear that the issue of identity cards is going to be a difficult one for the Labour administration."

Democrats Trying to Kill Voter ID Bill
12:18 AM
With the threat of a filibuster and crafty maneuvering with Senate rules, Democrats derailed a Republican-led bill to require Texas voters to show photo identification before casting their ballots.Senate Democrats were poised late Friday to start a filibuster on the bill at midnight. But before it started, Sen. Leticia Van de Putte, D-San Antonio, exercised a Senate rule that prevents a bill from carrying unrelated subjects. The original Senate bill dealt with the transportation code and information stored on the magnetic strip on driver's licenses. The voter ID language, tacked on by the House, affected the state election code.
