Ohio County Schools Considers Expansion of ID Cards
Despite controversy within Akron, Ohio area school districts about students who receive free or reduced-price lunches by a fingerprint identification system, Ohio County Schools is examining the possibility of using the high-tech system for all students' lunches, but with careful consideration.Assistant Superintendent George Krelis said he, Superintendent Lawrence Miller, Child Nutrition Director James Freeland and Technology Coordinator James McGlumphy have discussed the fingerprint scan technology, but they also are looking into further developing the system the district currently uses, which is through the swiping of an identification card. That initiative, Krelis noted, presently applies to Wheeling Park High School, where students run an ID card through a machine at the cafeteria. Krelis added, however, that he and the administration are examining an expansion of the ID card system so students could use their cards and later receive a bill.

It identifies important telephone numbers, procedures and precautions for emergencies such as cardiac and respiratory arrests, and what to do in case of a fire. The second new badge shows the new "Navy Medicine Emergency Codes" in colorful stripes on one side, and the JCAHO Patient Safety Standards on the other. The color of each code stripe corresponds to the code you would hear called out over the speaker system if a corresponding emergency in the hospital were to happen. The new codes went into effect Jan. 1. Everyone at NNMC, including civilians, service members, corpsmen, nurses and doctors, non-clinical and clinical personnel, should be wearing the two new badges in addition to the NNMC-issued picture ID badge.
