Chilton County schools getting carded
9:40 PM
Should you happen to find yourself on the campus of a Chilton County school in the near future, you might be asked to show your identification badge.Through homeland security grant money, the Chilton County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) has purchased a machine that will print out ID badges for the county's teachers and students. The objective is to eventually have each student and faculty member of a Chilton County school carry one of the badges."It's a safety issue," said Superintendent Mildred Ellison. "We'll get all students identification. In the future, to be on campus you will need a picture ID."The process begins tomorrow at 9 a.m. with a workshop to train school personnel how to make the badges.

In October, agencies plan to start issuing millions of new identification cards that will let managers track employees? movements and activities ? and put some cardholders at risk of losing their jobs, critics say. There?s a lot of potential for misuse of this card,? said Pam Dixon, executive director of the World Privacy Forum, a nonprofit group concerned with technology?s impact on privacy. The ID cards are intended to tighten security at buildings and on computer networks.
