Returning Fallujans Will See High Security

When Fallujans begin trickling back to their devastated city, they will be routed through sandbagged checkpoints where U.S. and Iraqi troops will take their fingerprints, issue them ID badges and scan their irises - part of an elaborate plan to keep insurgents out of the former militant stronghold.The first residents to be allowed in - possibly by Dec. 24 - will be heads of households, according to Lt. Gen. John F. Sattler, who outlined the plan Thursday. They will be permitted to survey damage to their homes during last month's battle to retake the city and to file claims for compensation.

No-fare bus rides end for 2 colleges

There are no more free rides for constituents of St. Augustine's College and Shaw University.
The Raleigh Transit Authority voted unanimously to stop honoring ID badges from both campuses Dec. 31. Contracts with both schools ended in August, and neither campus negotiated a new deal with the city for the UPASS program. UPASS offers free rides to students, faculty, staff and employees of local institutions who flash an ID card. Riders can go anywhere the city bus goes.The city has continued to accept Shaw and St. Aug's IDs for free rides for more than three months.

ID cards to be available Saturday at City Hall

Marion Citizen Police Academy Alumni members will be offering children's identification cards Saturday at Marion City Hall. The cards with a photograph of the child, and the child's name as well as emergency contact information will be available for those 15 and younger from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The first card is free, but duplicates cost $1 a piece. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

New Security Plan At NJ High School

Since September 11th, schools have been aggressive about finding ways to keep their students safe. But the steps being taken by one New Jersey town are angering students and causing some of them to rebel.?I threw it out. I won't wear it. I don't agree with it. It looks like a dog tag to me and I'm not a dog. They know who I am. Every teacher knows who I am,? says Gerard Porcella.His anger is directed at the newest fashion accessory at Nutley High School which is ID badges worn on a lanyard around a students neck. Everyone is wearing them but not by choice.

U.S. has invasive, high-tech plans for Fallujah?s returning refugees

Occupation forces intend to erect a "model city" from the ruins of Fallujah, including a high-tech security infrastructure complete with DNA testing, retina scans and ID badges for all the city's residents, according to Marine Corps officers interviewed by the Boston Globe.Identification badges displaying the individual's home address would be mandatory in the new Fallujah described by Marines, and cars -- the makeshift delivery device of choice for insurgent bombings -- would be banned altogether.

Minister orders airport security beefed up

Federal Transport Minister Jean Lapierre yesterday ordered security stepped up in airports across the country following the revelation that more than 1,000 uniform parts for airport security screeners, including ID badges , have gone missing."Since 1 p.m. this afternoon, in the 89 airports across the country, we're double-checking the identification cards -- not only when they enter the premises but also during the workshift."
