Kid ID cards included with school portraits
In addition to the usual school portraits, parents of Palatine's Pleasant Hill Elementary School students also received free photo ID cards this year.The cards came as part of a national program started this fall in collaboration with Lifetouch Studios, which handles school portraits for many District 15 schools and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

North teachers to sport badges
Teachers at North Medford High School soon will sport photo identification badges in a move that officials say will make the school safer and more inviting.The school got a $750 safety grant last year to pay for badges for all workers on campus, said Vice Principal Rick Parsagian."The premise is twofold," he said. "It?s so we know who all the adults on campus are and know anybody who doesn?t have a badge isn?t supposed to be here."Also, there?s an inviting aspect so students know who the teachers are and who to go to for help."

VA unveils secure veterans? ID card
The Veterans Affairs Department is launching new identification card for veterans using VA services that will safeguard confidential information.?It also helps prevent the theft of important benefits and services from veterans that they earned by their service to our country,? VA Secretary Anthony Principi said today.

Biometric ID cards will be expensive for British citizens
British citizens are to be charged much more for the planned introduction of biometrically secure identification documents: in a hearing before the Home Affairs Select Committee, Home Secretary David Blunkett announced that fees for the new passports equipped with biometric data -- such as finger prints, facial features, and iris scans -- will cost some 122 euros starting in 2007; up to now, the fee was only around 60 euros.

ID cards to double U.K. passport fees
The United Kingdom's biometric ID card plan will cost the government approximately $922 million a year by 2008, causing the price of new passports in the country to more than double.

Parents, students protest school ID badges
A new policy at a high school requiring students to wear identification badges has prompted some parents to complain and students to protest the move as an infringement on their rights.The badges, which are identical to the IDs students have always been required to carry and use to check out library books at Poplar Bluff High School, are now required to be worn on campus during school hours.

No picture ID needed to cast ballots in Louisiana
Louisiana voters should come to the polls on Tuesday with picture identification if they have it, but they'll still be allowed to cast ballots without it, Secretary of State Fox McKeithen said Sunday.
Elections officials recommend having photo ID because that speeds up the process, McKeithen said, but other forms of identification will do, including a utility bill, paycheck or Social Security card. Full Article from katc.com.
