Other Standards for ID Card Dimensions
Aside from the standard ID card dimension of CR-80/ID-1, there are many other sizes of ID cards available, with varying widths, heights and thicknesses. Larger or smaller cards can be generated for several purposes, including:
- Customer rewards cards – These types of cards are popular among grocery stores. Stores distribute cards to customers in order to gain more information about shopping habits and shopping trends, and customers carry them in order to receive discounts on certain items. Stores usually give out CR-80 sized cards for a customer’s wallet, but many stores also distribute smaller cards meant to go on a keychain, which may be more convenient for some than a card in a wallet.
- Convention IDs – Larger cards usually mean larger features, and larger photos. Conventions and trade shows can use CR-100, ID-3, ID-4 or even ID-7 size badges to help make attendees, presenters and vendors much more visible, as well as boost security.
While CR-80 ID card dimensions are the most popular sized cards (and therefore have the widest variety of available printers), there are alternatives for other ID card dimensions. For example, some ID card printers have adjustable print heads and rollers to accommodate ID cards that are thicker or thinner than the standard .03” of the CR-80.
