An ID card’s dimensions consist of three measures: the card’s length, width and thickness. Blank plastic cards in all thicknesses and size exist, each with its own special purpose. Blank ID cards, no matter what the size or function, can all have different security features added to them, including magnetic stripes, bar codes, and smart card chips.
The CR-80 ID card (sometimes called ID-1 or “credit card style”) is considered to be the standard size for most industries, and is therefore the most prevalent type of ID card dimension. There are a number of other ID card dimensions that are seen occasionally – like the oversized CR-100, but are not as common as the CR-80.
