Watermarks and holograms are near-translucent graphics printed over cards to increase visual authenticity. Watermarks are often holographic, meaning they appear to change based on the light and angle at which they are viewed. This effect can be achieved during the printing process or by applying hologram stickers by hand. Watermark-capable ID printers use an overlay ribbon or the “O” portion of a combined ribbon to produce the effect. Holographic overlays protect cards from wear and tear and making tampering and counterfeiting more difficult.
Most Magicard printers feature Holokote technology, which can print four distinct watermarks without additional supplies or cost. HoloKote Key allows a custom watermark to be developed from a logo or graphic, and is available for upgrade on high-end Magicard printers like the Rio and Tango.
