Laminate ID Card Printers

Lamination is the process of using heat and pressure to apply a laminate over the surface of a plastic ID card to protect the printed image from wear and fading. An overlaminate provides maximum durability and protection from abrasion, color fading and dye-migration. It is used in place of the standard Overlay (O) from a full-color ribbon. The Fargo DTC525-LC, DTC515-LC, HDP600-LC and HDP820-LC Oversized Card Printer/Encoders are FARGO all-in-one card systems that print and transfer protective overlaminate onto cards.

Once a card is printed in the print station, it advances - inside the printer/encoder - to the lamination station. The card can be laminated with either FARGO Thermal Transfer or PolyGuardT Overlaminate. These overlaminates may be ordered in clear; with a hologram of a globe (the FARGO stock image); or with a special order, custom-designed hologram. Although both Thermal Transfer and PolyGuard Overlaminates are designed to extend the life of cards, they provide different levels of protection.

Clear Overlaminate Printing Options

Thermal Transfer Overlaminate provides low to moderate card protection suitable for applications where cards will be subjected to a low amount of abrasion and little contact with vinyl items.

PolyGuard Overlaminate offers maximum card protection and is a must if your application requires a long card life or if cards will be subjected to wear factors such as repeated swipes through a magnetic stripe reader.

Holographic Overlaminate Options Using overlaminates that contain holographic images adds a level of security to cards by making them more unique and more difficult to counterfeit.

FARGO's custom overlaminates are intended to increase the life and durability of cards, help protect against the threat of counterfeiting and card tampering, and to make an entire ID system and facility more secure. Durable cards reduce replacement supplies and card costs Overlaminates not only make card designs tamper-resistant, but they also protect printed cards from abrasion and fading. Laminated cards "live" longer, and save money by reducing the need to issue new cards. Creates protected, proprietary cards Custom holographic overlaminates protect your system from counterfeiting. Only one entity can "own" a design and authorize permission for its use.

Depending on your budget there are several options - clear, stock or custom holographic PolyGuard or Thermal Transfer Overlaminate - can satisfy your requirements.

Card Printing Laminating

Airports and port authorities: PolyGuard protects IDs of baggage or cargo handlers from damage due to exposure to harsh sun and rain.

Universities: Laminated photo ID cards are prepared to stand up to four years of student use and abuse.

Government: Security personnel can inspect photo IDs laminated with custom holograms containing any number of hidden security features to verify the card's authenticity.

Military: Custom-size overlaminates can protect cards such as Common Access Cards with smart chips, or fortify officer badges worn on shirts and lapels daily.
