Holographic overlays are patterned laminates that cover the entire face of a card. Holograms, or watermarks, change in appearance depending on the light and angle by which a card is viewed. Holographic overlays increase visual authenticity by making alteration and counterfeit reproduction difficult. They also help protect cards from wear and tear, fading and scratches.
Many laminating ID card printers are capable of producing holographic overlays. Some ID printers can be upgraded with an easy to install module. An economical way to add a holographic element to cards is with self-applied hologram stickers.
