Thermal Transfer Monochrome Printing

Resin thermal transfer printers heat the resin-based, single-color ink of their ID card printer ribbons into liquid drops. Upon contact with the surface of the ID card, which has been heated, the drops of color and plastic card fuse.

One benefit of using a resin thermal transfer ID badge printer is an extremely durable ID card image. Maximum durability can be achieved by using Premium resin black ID card printer ribbon, rather than Standard black printer ribbon.

The economy and speed of the resin thermal transfer process makes it ideal for printing single color ID cards of any kind. In practice, the durability and crispness (as well as limited palette) of the process conspire to make it used primarily for printing text and bar codes.

Thermal transfer ID card printers are also useful for their ability to quickly customize pre-printed ID cards. Metallic resin ID card printer ribbons, both silver and gold, add uniqueness to what is standard. Scratch-off resin ribbons are used to print phone and gift cards, and also to conceal information (like PIN codes) reserved for customers.

Monochrome resin ID printer ribbons are cheaper than ID printer ribbons that produce multiple colors. They cannot be used with High Definition Printing (HDP) ID badge printers. Quality thermal transfer ID card machines include the Tattoo ID card printer, made by Evolis, and the Datacard SP55 monochrome ID badge printer.
