Starting this fall, Kansas University students will be able to use their student ID cards as transit passes for riding the university’s expanded bus service. Previously, a separate “KU on Wheels” pass was required, but with the new system, students will simply have to wave their student ID to hop aboard.

The goal of the system is to get more students and faculty to leave their cars at home. By increasing bus ridership, the university hopes to limit the number of cars occupying space throughout the core of the campus. There are no plans to add additional parking garages to the main part of campus, as the school aims to make the expanded bus system, as well as the park and ride system, the transportation trend of the future.
