One of the easiest and most effective ways to keep your card printer running properly is to clean it on a regular basis. Cleaning your card printer is a simple procedure that prevents many of the most common difficulties experienced by users, including broken ribbons, streaky printing, and card jams. You can easily avoid these problems, and any expensive repair costs they might entail, by staying on top of printer maintenance. In other words, treat your card printer like your car. You take care of it, and it will perform up to its best capabilities.
So how often should you clean your printer? That depends on the model, but typically you want to clean your ID card printer every time you change the print ribbon or cartridge. For a low-volume printer this could be after 165 prints. For high-volume models, you'll likely replace the ribbon and clean the machine after 500 prints or so. The simple answer is, when you change out the ribbon, go ahead and clean the printer.
Different ID card printers use different cleaning kits, so make sure you find the kit that works with your specific model. AlphaCard carries cleaning kits for all ID card printer makes and models. To shop for cleaning kits for your card printer, please visit our ID Printer Supplies section.
