HID Global announced today that it has acquired Nectar .NET-based smart card technology. The acquisition falls in line with HID's efforts to provide a full range of smart card offerings and embedded products for high-security applications using leading-edge operating systems.
Nectar allows smart cards to seamlessly integrate with .NET execution environments using standard Microsoft tools and Windows communication protocols. With the .NET platform, HID plans to strengthen and diversify its offerings in the area of multi-technology smart card platforms and cross-platform cards for multiple applications in a variety of vertical markets. Examples include transportation, physical access control, and transportation. Examples of HID software programs implemented on the Microsoft .NET platform include naviGO, Asure ID 6.0, and iDIRECTOR.
