Singapore's Land Transport Authority (LTA) is set to pilot a new e-payment system that will soon be used across all forms of public transport. The new system will feature smart cards good for commuting, paying for car parks, ERP (Electronic Road Pricing), and even for shopping.
Currently, public transport riders use an EZ-Link card to pay fares, while drivers use a CashCard for parking and paying ERP rates. Going forward, the Land Transport Authority wants the new smart card to serve as a single solution across all systems. Card readers in buses and trains are being upgraded to support the smart cards. 10,000 commuters will be involved in a two-month trial of the e-payment system starting this week.
