The Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles is using the State Fair as a way to stress the importance of State ID cards for children. While the department has offered child ID cards in the past, the push has become stronger thanks to a new “ID R KIDS” initiative. A public safety booth at the Ohio State Fair will help to make more parents aware of the program.

Each ID card features a digital photo of the child, along with their personal information. Both the image and the personal data are entered into a statewide Operator's License/Identification database, where it can be accessed by authorized law enforcement officials through the Ohio Attorney General's secure website. This information can be extremely helpful when a child goes missing, especially during the critical early stages of a search.

Any child under the age of 18 can receive a card. They must be accompanied by a parent to provide proof of name, birth date, and social security number.
