The days of mining your pockets for coins when visiting Delray Beach are over. That's because the South Florida destination spot is replacing all change-fed parking meters with newer models that accept credit cards, debits cards, and smart cards.
The new parking meters are currently being installed along the Intracoastal Waterway, State Road A1A, and in parking lots, and should provide locals and visitors alike some extra convenience when rolling into town.
Smart cards for the parking meters can be purchased with specific credit amounts on them. When a smart card is read by the meter, the parking fee is deducted from the card. For those who still prefer carrying large amounts of change in their pockets, the new parking meters will also accept nickels, dimes, and quarters. The city expects the meters to be up and running by mid-July.
